How 18 Clues Works

You go to our Challenge Shop and purchase one or more of our 18 Clues Challenges. You can choose a Walking Challenge, which requires you to visit the location and find the clues in person, and/or Virtual ('Armchair') Challenge, which you can complete online, anywhere you choose, using tools such as what3words, Google Maps and your preferred search engine. Solve all 18 clues correctly and you will be left with the correct solution to the Challenge, which you can then submit online to be entered into an amazing prize draw.

All clues, facts and solutions in the Walking and Virtual Challenge versions are different, so if you are able to visit the Challenge location you can complete both Challenge versions to double your chances of winning the prize. As you explore the location, be it physically or virtually, you will learn loads of interesting facts... but best of all, a healthy percentage of the price of each Challenge or Gift Voucher you buy will be donated to an animal welfare and/or environmental charity.

Give the gift of adventure with an 18 Clues Gift Voucher!

You can choose to have the gift voucher emailed to yourself to print out and present in person, or you can opt to have the voucher emailed directly to the recipient on a date that you pre-schedule.

If you choose to have the gift voucher emailed to yourself, you can buy a stylish presentation sleeve from our Challenge Shop for just £2, including postal charges. You then simply insert the voucher you have purchased and present to your friend or loved one.

£1 for each £10 spent on gift vouchers and £1 for each presentation sleeve purchased will be donated to animal and/or environmental charities.

IMPORTANT: If you are buying a Challenge for others, always buy a gift voucher. Why? Whenever you purchase a Challenge through the Challenge Shop, a Unique Reference Number (URN) is generated that is specifically linked to you and your contact details, so only you will be able to request answers to clues or submit the final answer. If, however, you buy someone a gift voucher, they can choose whichever Challenge(s) they wish, and when they redeem their voucher they will be registered as a member in their own right.

To buy an 18 Clues gift voucher click the Gift Voucher image above, the Header at the top of the page, or here .

Known worldwide for its famous university and quintessential English charm, Cambridge is like a living storybook where every corner hides a surprise. Imagine ancient colleges with secret courtyards, quirky hidden gems, and punts gliding along the River Cam. The city is small enough to wander around on foot or bike, yet packed with magnificent architecture, world-class museums, quirky bars, buzzing cafés, and green spaces perfect for relaxing picnics. Exploring Cambridge is an absolute treat!

The Challenge... College life in Cambridge is steeped in tradition… and mischief! Student pranks have become legendary, from a van hoisted onto the Senate House roof to King Henry VIII's statue at King's College being interfered with, and many other daring escapades. There are whispers that plans are afoot for an even riskier prank. Identify the ring‑leader and the target college before someone gets hurt.

About this Challenge... For more information specific to this particular Challenge location, please see 'ABOUT THIS CHALLENGE', at the base of the specific Product Page in the Challenges Shop. Choose the Walking Challenge, the Virtual Challenge, or if you leve near the Challenge location or plan to visit Cambridge, buy both to double your experience, double your knowledge and double your chances of winning the prize package!

The Charity... £1 from each Cambridge - Silicon Fen Challenge sold will be donated to the Save Me Trust. Save Me was set up to proactively protect the welfare and dignity of wild animals through campaigning, lobbying and changing laws, giving wild animals a voice. Founded by long time animal welfare campaigner Sir Brian May (yes, the legendary Queen guitarist),  and multi award-winning conservationist Anne Brummer. It specialises in collaborating with experts to find sustainable solutions based on science and common sense. To find out more about this incredible charity, click on the grey 'Challenge Charity' box above right, or here.
