Prize Draw Ts & Cs
1. The Prize Draw
1.1 There will be one ‘Prize Draw’ per quarter, when we will randomly select one correct answer from all those submitted during the three months of the relevant quarter. The winner will be entitled to receive the prize in accordance to these terms.
1.2 Each Prize Draw will be administered/promoted by 18 Clues Limited ('18 CLues), the ‘Host/Promotor’.
1.3 The prize package on offer in any given quarter may be provided by 18 Clues, the ‘Host/Promotor’, and/or a third party ‘Prize Provider’.
1.4 These terms and conditions are the ‘General Terms’ which apply to every Prize Draw that 18 Clues administers.
1.5 Each Prize Draw may also have its own specific terms and conditions (‘Specific Terms’), which may be found on the website along with details of the current Prize Draw on offer.
1.6 These General Terms shall apply in addition to any Specific Terms, which may be in place for a specific Prize Draw. You should always read these General Terms together with the Specific Terms. If any provisions in the Specific Terms conflict with these General Terms, the Specific Terms will prevail.
1.7 We may change these General Terms at any time so you should check this page regularly for any changes. Changes will apply from the date that they are published on this page.
1.8 By entering any Prize Draw, you accept that you will be bound by these General Terms and any applicable Specific Terms.
1.9 Where we run promotions in collaboration with other companies, their details will be set out in the relevant Specific Terms.
2. Eligibility
2.1 Our Prize Draws are open to any UK resident aged 18 years or over who has purchased, or been gifted, an 18 Clues Challenge and submits a correct Challenge answer in tandem with a valid Unique Reference Number (URN). The following exceptions apply:
2.2 Employees of Trails of Discovery, 18 Clues, or any Prize Provider, members of their direct families, or any person directly associated with a promotion are not eligible to enter. Any entries submitted by such persons will be invalid.
2.3 In entering the Prize Draw you confirm that you are eligible to do so and are eligible to claim the prize package should yours be the winning entry.
2.4 We will not accept entries that have been automatically generated by computer, are incomplete, or are threatening or inappropriate.
2.5 Whether all relevant eligibility requirements have been met will always be decided at our sole discretion and we may require evidence of confirmation from entrants before we award a prize.
3. How to Enter
3.1 To enter the Prize Draw you will need to visit the relevant webpage on the 18 Clues website, select a valid 10-digit URN assigned to you from a drop-down menu, and then submit the correct 18 Clues Challenge answer. You will be asked to read these Prize Draw Terms and Conditions, any Specific Terms relating to the prize package, and our Privacy Policy. You will further be asked to verify that you are 18 years of age or over.
3.2 We are unable to accept postal entries.
3.3 The Prize Draw is a quarterly event, beginning at 00.01 on the first day of the first month of the quarter in question (‘Opening Date’) and ending at midnight on the last day of the last quarter in question (‘Closing Date’). The quarters will therefore be: 1st December - 28th/29th Feburary, 1st March - 31st May, 1st June - 31st August and 1st September - 30th November in any given year. All submissions received after the closing date will be entered into the next Prize Draw.
3.4 Entrants may not use automated entry software or any other mechanical or electronic means that permits any person to make multiple entries to a prize draw.
3.5 18 Clues takes no responsibility for any technical, communication or other problems that might prevent the receipt of the entrant’s details and accepts no responsibility for entries which are not visible due to entrants’ privacy settings, or incomplete. We cannot enter into correspondence with entrants who experience difficulties with the entry mechanism.
4. Winning and Prizes
4.1 The prize winner will be chosen by random draw from all valid, correct entries submitted during the relevant quarter. The draw will take place within seven days of the closing date set out in the Specific Terms, or such other time as set out in the Specific Terms.
4.2 Prize winners will be notified that they have won within seven days of the date on which the relevant draw has taken place, or such other time as set out in the Specific Terms. Unless set out otherwise in the Specific Terms, prize winners will be notified via the email address provided when they submitted their answer.
4.3 If we are unable to contact a winner to award a prize within 14 days of the notification email going out, or such other time as set out in the Specific Terms, then the winner forfeits their right to the prize and we reserve the right to pick another winner at random from the remaining entries.
4.4 We reserve the right to request proof of a prize winner’s identity in the form of a passport or driver’s licence and proof of address in the form of a utility bill. In the event that a prize winner cannot provide us with proof of identity and/or address that is reasonably acceptable to us, we may withdraw the prize and select another prize winner.
4.5 18 Clues reserves the right to replace any part of a stated prize for an alternative prize of equal or greater value. Prizes are non-transferable and have no cash alternative.
4.6 We make no representation or warranty in relation to any of the prizes provided and we accept no responsibility for any loss, expense or damage which is suffered or sustained in connection with a prize, or accepting or using any part of a prize, except for any liability which cannot be excluded by law, in which case that liability is limited to the minimum allowable by law. Your statutory rights are not affected.
4.7 We shall not be responsible for any additional expenses incurred by a prize winner in relation to a prize.
4.8 All stated prize values are at the recommended retail price in pound sterling and are, to the best of our knowledge and belief, correct at the time of printing. We take no responsibility for any fluctuations in prize values.
4.9 Any cash prizes will be paid directly into the prize winner's account.
5. Publicity
5.1 Personal information provided by entrants when entering the Prize Draw will be used by 18 Clues for the purposes of administering and fulfilling the Prize Draw and always in accordance with our Privacy Policy.
5.2 In the event that a prize is to be provided by a third party ‘Prize Provider’, we may pass on a winner’s details to the Prize Provider to enable them to send their prize directly to the winner. The Specific Terms will set out details of a Prize Provider and their Privacy Policy.
5.3 Where you have indicated your consent to receiving communications from 18 Clues about our offers, products, special offers and services, as part of entering a Prize Draw:
5.3.1 your email address will be added to our electronic mailing list accordingly;
5.3.2 any personal data you provide will be processed in accordance with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018 and associated laws;
5.3.3 the way in which your data will be processed by 18 Clues will be in accordance with our’ Privacy Policy.
5.3.4 see also Condition 5.4 below with regard to the announcement of winners;
5.3.5 if you do not wish for the use of your details for marketing purposes at any time, you can select the unsubscribe option in the emails that are sent to you.
5.4 Under the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) requirements, 18 Clues must either publish or make available information that indicates that a valid award took place. To comply with this obligation, 18 Clues will send the name and county of a prize winner to anyone who contacts us using the details set out in the Specific Terms within one month after the closing date of a Promotion. If a prize winner objects to their name and/or county being published or made available, they should notify 18 Clues of this when responding to the notification email to claim their prize. In such circumstances we must still provide the information to the ASA, if requested.
5.5 By entering the Prize Draw, you agree to participate in any reasonable publicity required by us and/or the prize provider, at our cost, should you win the quarterly prize package.
6. General
6.1 18 Clues reserves the right to disqualify any entrant who we reasonably believe violates the General Terms or Specific Terms and to require them to return any prize they may have won.
6.2 If for any reason any Prize Draw is not capable of running as planned as a result of any (including but not limited to) technical failures, unauthorised intervention, computer virus, mobile network failure, tampering, fraud or any other causes beyond our control which corrupt or affect the administration, security, fairness, integrity or proper conduct of a Prize Draw, we reserve the right to cancel, terminate, modify or suspend the Prize Draw and/or to disqualify any individual who (whether directly or indirectly) causes (or has caused) the problem.
6.3 We may vary these General Terms or any Specific Terms or terminate a Prize Draw at any time at our absolute discretion if reasonably required to do so. Termination or variation of a Prize Draw is without liability to any entrant or other person. We will not award the prize if a Prize Draw is terminated.
6.4 Our decisions relating to a Prize Draw are final. No discussions or correspondence with entrants or any other person will be entered into.
6.5 A failure by 18 Clues to enforce any of the terms and conditions in the General Terms or Specific Terms in any instance will not give rise to any claim or right of action by any entrant or prize winner, nor shall it be deemed to be a waiver of any of our rights in relation to the same.
6.6 Except as specifically set out herein and to the maximum extent permitted by law, all conditions, warranties and representations expressed or implied by law are hereby excluded.
6.7 In the event that any provision of these General Terms or any Specific Terms are held to be illegal, invalid, void or otherwise unenforceable, it shall be removed from the remaining provisions which shall continue in full force and effect.
6.8 Our Prize Draws are not sponsored, endorsed or administered by, or associated with Facebook, Instagram, Tik Tok or any other social media platform provider. Entrants agree to abide by the terms of service of those platform providers when entering a Prize Draw published on social media and further agree to release the social media sites from any liability arising from or as a result of any participation in such Prize Draw.
6.9 These General Terms and any Specific Terms shall be construed in accordance with, and governed by, the laws of England and Wales.
